About S & V Millets

The Founders

S & V MILLETS was founded by Muthusamy Sathyamoorthi (Sam), who was born and raised in an agricultural environment in India and always wanted to give back to the farming community. He has qualifications in Law, Accounting, and Business Administration from reputable institutions in India, the UK, the USA, and Canada. Furthermore, he has had experience in manufacturing, logistics, sales, and marketing at various levels in many corporations for three decades in India, the Middle East, and North America. Sam’s agricultural background and 20 years of experience in the food industry provide a connection between his passion and his experience; he can use industry skills and knowledge to innovate creative ideas at all levels of millet production and distribution to attain the vision of S & V MILLETS.

Another founder of S & V MILLETS is Sam’s son Vignesh Sathyamoorthi. He has earned a bachelor’s degree in Commerce from the University of Toronto, specializing in Marketing and majoring in Economics. Vignesh strongly believes that to shine the limelight on millets and sell them to consumers at an affordable price while simultaneously increasing the financial well-being of farmers, a strong emphasis on Marketing and Economics is needed. Vignesh’s experience with current trends and cutting-edge ideas in global marketing and economics will be vital in ensuring S & V MILLETS can achieve its vision. As a competitive chess player for seven years, Vignesh developed important skills that translate to business, such as concentration, critical thinking, and strategizing, while under pressure and on a timeline. His personal experience and education will enable Vignesh to make unique contributions to support Sam in realizing the vision of S & V MILLETS.

The Founders’ Millet Story

For the longest time, rice and wheat were the prominent carbohydrates of choice for Sam and Vignesh. However, both were striving to find an alternative to rice and wheat to facilitate their weight reduction process. In 2019, Sam and Vignesh came across a family of ancient cereal grains called “millets.” After regular consumption of different types of millets, they were extremely delighted to see a reduction in their respective weights, especially Vignesh who, before including millets in his diet, had vigorously tried for many years to lose weight but kept failing at it. Additionally, both experienced other benefits to their health, including strengthened immune systems and an overall sense of better well-being. Moreover, Sam was surprised to be able to cook a variety of millet dishes that tasted as good, if not better, than those containing rice and wheat as the main ingredient!

As Sam and Vignesh were learning more about millets, they came to understand that this grain family also had the potential to benefit farmers and the environment. This sparked a question: “If millets are beneficial to us the consumers, as well as to the farmers and the environment, then why aren’t millets staple grains?” The founders believe that the answer is simply that most people don’t know much about millets! People are generally unaware of the benefits of millets, partially because current production and distribution practices mean that millets are often less accessible to consumers compared to rice and wheat. Sam and Vignesh are determined to change this, and the formation of S & V MILLETS is their answer. Sam’s agricultural background and his three decades of experience in the corporate world combined with strong support from Vignesh, who brings knowledge of the latest marketing and sales strategies to the table, make for an innovative and passionate team! Sam and Vignesh firmly believe that their combined experience will enable them to bring millets back into the world as a staple food, in a way that benefits consumers, farmers, and the environment.
